The USS Saratoga Museum Foundation has worked for 12 years to bring the ship to Rhode Island, and is now focusing on continuing to acquire Saratoga memorabilia for display on-board the USS John F. Kennedy in the Aquidneck Island (Middletown / Newport) area of Rhode Island. Saratoga was decommissioned in 1994, and was stored at Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to preserve her as a museum ship. The Navy paid ESCO Marine of Brownsville, Texas, one cent to take the ship for dismantling and recycling. The USS Saratoga Museum Foundation has worked for 12 years to bring the ship to Rhode Island, and is now focusing on continuing to acquire Saratoga memorabilia for display on-board the USS John F. Kennedy in the Aquidneck Island (Middletown / Newport) area of Rhode Island. The USS Saratoga Museum is tasked to educate and inform future generations about the ships and aircraft, which defended our freedom, the people who developed and built them, and the men and women who served in them.
